In 2008 the Oneida County Sheriff acquired a Belgian Malinois, Shadow, as its K9 Officer, with Deputy Daryl Peterson as his handler. Shadow was instrumental in numerous cases around the county both for the Sheriff’s Office and also in helping other agencies like the Idaho State Police. Shadow was later partnered with Deputy Blair Higley and then Deputy Rusty Jones. In the spring of 2014 K9 Officer Shadow retired. Shadow returned to his original handler, Daryl Peterson, where he is comfortably enjoying his retirement in the Idaho countryside.
